Fear Of Drowning

Coward.

A miniscule word of only six letters,

Yet it engulfs my entire being.

Like a roiling pool of black tar,

I drown in its merciless depths,

The ghastly, thick liquid

Forcing its way down my throat,

Suffocating me of my air of confidence.

And try as I might

To fight back this menace,

My body and mind give in to its embrace,

And I lie suspended in the void of black.

But my heart still beats its rhythm,

And as long as it continues pulsing,

There is still hope,

That I can pull myself free

From this prison that holds me down.

This dense black sea of fear.
